The minutes also note that Fairfield and Benton are working together and may move away from Delta, a scenario the board said could increase China’s per-capita cost further.
No formal motion was recorded on the matter. Chair Wayne Chadwick told the board he would like the town to prioritize budget items and “pinch pennies” where necessary to protect essential services if emergency-service costs rise.
Town Manager Rebecca Hapgood noted that a Delta meeting is scheduled the following day at the town office; board members asked the manager to monitor negotiations and report back on fiscal impacts so they can consider options during upcoming budget planning.
The board did not take immediate formal action; Select Board members indicated the issue will be addressed in future budget discussions and that the manager will provide further information.
