At the meeting, the board voted to renew membership in the Morganza Action Coalition (MAC) at a recommended $30,000 level and approved a professional-services contract with Delta Coast Consultants to serve as program manager for an eastern landbridge project.
Nick, the district's executive director, described recent advocacy in Washington on the district's priority to secure federal funding for floodgates and said MAC and Acorn Consulting helped the district obtain support for the Section 203 study and other federal outreach. He said the district previously participated in MAC at a $10,000 membership level, was not charged last year, and that other districts participate at higher contribution levels. Based on committee discussion, staff recommended participation at $30,000 and the board approved that recommendation by motion.
Later in the meeting the board considered and approved a last-minute unanimous-agenda item: a contract for Delta Coast Consultants to provide program-management services for an eastern landbridge project using reprogrammed CPA (oil-spill) funds. The motion to approve the contract was moved and passed; speakers clarified that the contract is CPA-funded and not charged to levy-district taxpayers.
Board members did not attach additional conditions to these approvals during the recorded discussion. Staff will proceed with the membership renewal and contract execution and monitor program management deliverables.
