Board approves budget amendment, vendor contracts and personnel moves

At its June 29 meeting the Lenoir County Board of Education approved a set of fiscal and contract actions and confirmed personnel moves.
Finance staff presented the June financial report and asked the board to approve Budget Amendment No. 4, described as a revision to reflect reimbursements, ESSER‑related adjustments and other year‑end changes; Mr. Hill moved approval and the amendment was adopted "without objection." The board also approved the 2026–27 budget resolution after discussion; Mr. Brick announced he would not support the resolution but it carried on a board vote.
On contracts, the board approved a driver‑education contract with Jordan Driving School of the Carolinas; staff said the contract reflects a $5 per‑student increase for classroom instruction and a $5 increase for behind‑the‑wheel instruction (a combined $10 increase) and that the budget can support the change. The board also approved a $136,769.77 contract for an in‑class camera system at EB Frank Middle School; speakers noted the system comes with a 10‑year warranty.
The board declared selected items from the maintenance, transportation and CTE departments surplus and authorized appropriate disposal or recycling, with proceeds returned to the originating departments.
In personnel business the board approved the personnel report (Mr. Hill recused himself where family members were listed) and confirmed Nichollet Morgan as assistant principal at North Lenoir High School. The board also noted the resignation of Rochelle Middle School principal Terry Wooten, effective at the end of July, and named Kiara Morris as her replacement.
