Bardstown council holds first readings of two ordinances; mayor announces park donation and projects

BARDSTOWN, Ky. — At its July 9 meeting the Bardstown City Council heard first readings of two ordinances and received several updates from Mayor J. Richard Heaton.
Mayor Heaton introduced Ordinance B2024-09, which proposes amendments to titles, pay grades and the number of authorized positions in the city’s Classification and Compensation Plan; City Attorney Audrey Haydon read the ordinance in summary, as required for a first reading. He also introduced Ordinance B2024-10, which would amend the hours during which a noise ordinance violation may occur; Haydon read that ordinance in summary as well. No final votes on either ordinance were recorded at the meeting.
In his update, Mayor Heaton said the city received a $7,500 donation from the Greater Louisville Association of Realtors for Mayor's Park and that a formal park dedication is scheduled for 2:00 PM on Thursday, July 11, 2024. He said an electrical inspector position will be created by ordinance at the next City Council meeting and that design work is underway for an indoor sports and aquatic center.
Councilman Roland E. Williams also noted Fire Chief Todd Spalding had represented the city at a recent event.
The minutes do not include ordinance text, fiscal impacts, or implementation schedules for the compensation changes, noise-hour amendments, the new inspector position, or the aquatic center project.
