The Bardstown City Council held a special property tax hearing on Sept. 10, 2024, during which City Administrator Aaron Boles presented Ordinance B2024-12 proposing a property tax rate of 16.10 cents per $100 of assessed real and personal property for fiscal year 2024-25. Mayor J. Richard Heaton convened the meeting at 5:50 p.m.
"The proposed rate of 16.10 cents per $100 of real and personal property is lower than last year’s rate," said City Administrator Aaron Boles. He added that taxpayers would see a reduced tax bill if their property assessment had not increased and that the city expects higher overall revenue because of an increase in the number and value of assessments.
Boles presented the ordinance and explained the hearing’s purpose was to receive comments from the public on the proposed rate. No members of the public asked questions or offered comments during the hearing.
After the presentation and the public-comment period, Councilman Roland E. Williams made a motion to adjourn the meeting at 5:56 p.m.; the motion was seconded by Councilwoman Betty Hart and carried by a 6-0 vote. Council members present, as recorded at the start of the session, were David Dones, Betty Hart, Franklin Hibbs IV, Bill Sheckles, Roland E. Williams and Joe Buckman, together with Mayor J. Richard Heaton.
The hearing did not record a vote on Ordinance B2024-12; the meeting served to gather public input on the proposed rate. The council adjourned without further action at 5:56 p.m.
