BARDSTOWN, Ky. — On July 9 the Bardstown City Council approved road-closure requests for two community events and authorized city donations to local festivals and organizations.
Councilman Roland E. Williams moved to approve the Tri-County United Way Spirit 5K road closure for Oct. 12, 2024; Councilwoman Betty Hart seconded and the motion passed 6-0. Councilman Joe Buckman moved to approve the Buttermilk Days road closure for Aug. 22–24, 2024; Councilman Williams seconded; that motion carried 5-0 with Councilman Bill Sheckles recorded as abstaining.
The council also approved two festival donations after a motion from Councilman Buckman and a second from Councilman David Dones: $3,000 for the Buttermilk Days festival and $6,500 for Old Bardstown Village, Inc.; that motion carried 5-0 with Councilman Sheckles abstaining. Separately, Councilman Franklin Hibbs moved and Councilwoman Betty Hart seconded a $3,000 donation to the Bardstown–Nelson County African American Heritage Museum; the motion carried 4-0 with Councilmen Sheckles and Roland E. Williams abstaining.
