West Milwaukee announces Notre Dame groundbreaking, Global Power site-plan submittal and staffing updates

West Milwaukee — Village officials used Monday—9s meeting to share community updates, including a May 27 groundbreaking at Notre Dame, a site-plan filing for the old Journal Sentinel property and public-safety staffing progress.

President Stalewski reported the April 26 village cleanup collected 1.56 tons of waste. Trustee Schaefer said the Strong Neighborhoods application will be submitted sometime after Memorial Day.

Administrator Egan announced a groundbreaking and blessing for construction at Notre Dame on Tuesday, May 27, 2025, with Mass at 8:00 a.m. and the groundbreaking to follow at 9:00 a.m. Egan also reminded residents the West Milwaukee Summer Newsletter article submissions were due May 9 and noted a pickleball tournament tied to a Beer Garden event on June 12 that is still accepting teams. Egan said Global Power submitted site plans for the old Journal Sentinel site; that submittal will be discussed at the Planning Commission meeting on May 13.

Police Chief Shaundra Randolph reported recruitment activity in the department: eight candidates have tested for police positions, one candidate did not pass and three are awaiting background checks. Chief Randolph said the parking checker submitted a two-week notice; the village hall door-lock repair is proceeding with the original vendor, though a specific repair date was not yet scheduled.

Administrator Egan said equipment-operator positions have been filled; the village still has open positions for a mechanic and an administrative assistant. The minutes do not include further details about the Global Power plans or any Planning Commission action taken to date.
