West Milwaukee awarded $100,000 in CDBG funds; DOT invoices may strain capital budget

Administrator Egan reported that the Village received Community Development Block Grant awards for 2025, including $10,000 for Community Centre operations, $20,000 for code enforcement and $70,000 for Community Centre improvements.
Egan also told the board that invoices from the Wisconsin Department of Transportation for the Greenfield Avenue project were higher than anticipated and that the additional cost may affect the village’s capital budget. No specific additional invoice amounts were provided in the meeting minutes.
Egan provided other operational updates: the Department of Public Works is short-staffed and is conducting interviews; the Plan Commission will meet March 18 to review items; a potential new business is considering reusing the old Journal Sentinel building; two new police officers will be sworn in March 20 at 4 p.m.; 38th Street construction is expected to begin this week; and the village’s keyless entry system is not functioning.
