Byram swears in Guy Mariani as police chief; council notes grant activity

Township Manager Joseph Sabatini read a congratulatory statement noting Mariani was hired in July 2000, promoted to sergeant in 2005 and to lieutenant in February 2024. Sabatini praised Mariani’s integrity and leadership and quoted General Douglas MacArthur: "A true leader has the confidence to stand alone, the courage to make tough decisions, and the compassion to listen to the needs of others." Sabatini added he looks forward to working with Mariani to serve township residents.
The council also acknowledged Retired Chief Dan De Wald with an Honorable Discharge award recognizing 23½ years of service. Separately, Mayor Rubenstein updated the council that CDF and CDS grants tied to the police department remain on track; the council discussed applying for grants before the March 11 deadline to support projects such as a food pantry or field house and asked staff to involve an estimator if proceeding.
Manager Sabatini additionally noted a planned meeting with the Board of Public Utilities and Councilman Roseff regarding ETG work in Cranberry Lake. No formal council action accompanied the swearing-in; the item was ceremonial and administrative in nature.
