Louisa-Muscatine board approves reduction of two nutrition food-service positions

The Louisa-Muscatine Community School District Board on June 15 approved a recommendation to reduce two nutrition food-service positions for budgetary reasons, eliminating one position at the high school and one at the elementary school. The affected employees named in the minutes are Savannah McCleary (high school food service) and Star Ibbotson (elementary food service). The motion was made by Jeff Riggan, seconded by Bryce Hoben and passed unanimously.
Nutrition Director Linsey Reimers presented the recommendation after reviewing meal counts, staffing FTE, and revenues and expenditures; she told the board she believes the staffing reduction will not impede the district’s ability to meet meal service obligations. Board members discussed promoting completion of Free & Reduced-price meal applications to support nutrition fund revenue and considered outreach tactics such as QR codes that link families directly to the application.
