Sharon Historic District Commission approves two renovation applications

The Town of Sharon Historic District Commission approved two property renovation applications at its Feb. 24, 2026 meeting.

Owner Lily Woodworth presented the application for 40 North Main Street, describing a kitchen renovation that includes squaring an indented window and adding clapboard. Woodworth said associated exterior piping will be placed out of public view and that other changes are confined to the rear of the structure and not visible from the street. The commission closed the public-hearing portion of that application at 5:34 p.m. and later approved the application, with a motion of Hall/Szalewicz passed "all in favor."

Land Use Administrator Jamie Casey presented the application for 99 Calkinstown Road, which requests concrete pillars and a wooden driveway gate at the entrance plus screening for existing air-conditioning units. Members reviewed photographs of the entrance; Casey noted the pillars have already been placed without a permit. The hearing segment for this item closed at 5:37 p.m., and the commission approved the application, finding it meets the commission's regulations. The motion to approve was Hall/Szalewicz and passed "all in favor."

The commission recorded the approvals as formal actions of the meeting. Members in attendance for the vote included Chairman John Baroody, Betsy Hall, Steve Szalewicz and alternate Theo Coloumbe, who was seated for the meeting.

The commission did not record any public objections during the hearings. The approvals were presented as regulatory determinations—members stated the applications "meet our regulations"—rather than conditional approvals with listed modifications.

The commission’s next regularly scheduled meeting is Monday, March 23, 2026, when additional applications and scheduled hearings are expected to be considered.
