The Hawarden City Council approved a set of routine land‑use and licensing items during its Jan. 28 meeting, including three downtown building permits and two liquor‑license renewals.
Council approved a building permit for work at 1813 Central Avenue after confirming required fire‑district plans had been submitted. Permits for 800 Central Avenue (the former lawyer’s office) and 806 Central Avenue (above the Willow Tree business) also were approved by voice vote, each passing 4-0.
On the consent agenda the council renewed a Class B liquor license for Dollar General effective March 1, 2026, and renewed a Class B retail alcohol license for La Hispania effective Feb. 28, 2026; staff reported the paperwork was in order. All consent items passed 4-0.
These approvals were routine votes required because the properties are in the downtown fire district; staff confirmed plan materials were provided prior to the council action.
