The Hawarden City Council conducted several routine actions on March 25, 2026, each approved unanimously.
The council approved the March 11, 2026 meeting minutes and the March 25 claims for payment by voice/roll-call votes (each passed 5-0). Council also approved fiscal sponsorships allowing the Hawarden Senior Center, the Haywarden Community Dinner, and Wreaths Across America to route project funds through the city as a passthrough; the council clarified the city will not be committing general funds and will pass received donations to the organizations (vote 5-0).
Council adopted Resolution 2026-09, a tax abatement consistent with local code provisions that can grant a five-year residential exemption on the first $75,000 of assessed value for qualifying properties; the resolution passed by a 5-0 roll call. Council also voted to set a special public hearing on April 8, 2026 to consider the proposed property tax levy and proposed rate; the hearing will be advertised in the local paper and online (vote 5-0).
An engagement letter with Williams & Company was discussed and staff reported it matched a previously approved version, so no additional action was required. There were no consent-agenda items. The meeting adjourned at 5:54 p.m.
