Polk County approves quarterly large-item events and funding for compensation benchmarking software

Polk County Commissioners on March 24 moved to expand community waste collection events and approved a plan to acquire compensation-benchmarking software to support the FY2027 budget process.
Environmental staff reported results from a March 14 free tire and large-item collection: 1,010 tires collected, 83 vehicles used the tire collection line, 48 vehicles used the large-item line, and total recorded tonnage was about 6.55 tons. The event included two full-time sheriff's deputies for operational support, six inmates assisting, and 14 community volunteers. Staff told the court that dumpsters filled quickly and that many residents with trailer loads were turned away; commissioners authorized staff to plan for quarterly events and to identify funding sources, including environmental office funds and grant support.
On budgeting operations, county HR and finance staff presented a procurement proposal for a public-sector compensation benchmarking platform (vendor presented as TrueComp) to provide comparative salary and benefits data. The platform was offered at roughly $20,000 per year (three-year contract option available) and would allow staff and commissioners to select comparator agencies, model benefits and longevity, and generate real-time reports for the upcoming budget cycle. Commissioners approved moving forward with the procurement and directed staff to implement the tool for FY2027 budget planning.
Both votes were carried by the court during the meeting; staff will return with scheduling details for the expanded collection events and will use the benchmarking platform to advise salary and pay-scale decisions in the coming budget cycle.
