Polk County Commissioners Court conducted routine administrative business on Jan. 13, approving the consent agenda, personnel actions and a range of budget and contract items while tabling two offers to purchase tax-foreclosed properties.
The court accepted a certificate of achievement for excellence in financial reporting for the county auditor's office and approved an addendum to the consent agenda totaling $353,195.88. The court approved personnel actions (including one emergency hire in the Aging department) and adopted FY2026 budget revisions and amendments identified as 2026-09 and 2026-09A.
Two purchase offers for tax-foreclosed properties (River Lake Estate section 2, lot 252 in Precinct 1, cause T23-0194; and RW Russell survey abstract 68 tract 39, 4.34 acres cause T12-135 in Precinct 3) were tabled at the request of a commissioner. The court accepted an $8,857.84 donation from Idle Wild Estates Property Owners Association for materials to repair subdivision roads in Precinct 2 and granted conditional approval for the Lwood subdivision in Precinct 2, requiring the developer to provide security for construction and warranty of roads and utilities.
The court approved a request to seek reclaimed asphalt wrap from the Texas Department of Transportation (540 cubic yards requested for Precinct 3; estimated county cost $10,080 for that allocation) and rejected all bids for a tractor/side boom mower procurement after financing and debt concerns. Commissioners approved a $47,180 contract to replace the county jail's final hot-water boiler, noting available capital-outlay funds, and approved grant-covered amendments and a $37,360 change order for GLO CDBG mitigation projects in precincts 2 and 3 (contract numbers 24-065-044-E536 and 24-065-045-E537). The court also approved amendments with Langford for FEMA Hazard Mitigation Grant Program generator projects to add required federal language.
The court recessed to announce a risk-management workshop for elected officials and department heads at 1:30 p.m. with the Texas Association of Counties (TAC).
