The Parks & Recreation Commission discussed whether to meet monthly through the spring and summer to better manage increased park-use and budget preparation. Several commissioners favored keeping meetings on the fourth Monday for continuity while others noted personal scheduling conflicts and a preference for Wednesdays. Staff warned that existing city staffing is limited and urged that monthly meetings only proceed if agendas are substantive.
Commissioners proposed preparing a list of at least three substantive agenda items for each monthly meeting before committing. Members noted the budget timeline (staff said budget items for council begin in early May) and agreed to revisit the meeting-frequency question at the May meeting; staff suggested ad hoc subcommittees of two commissioners could gather information without violating the Brown Act.
No formal motion was made at this meeting; the issue will be discussed again in May, and the commission plans to ensure proposed monthly meetings would have full agendas and staff support before making a change.
