Staff also said final species and quantities would depend on the city’s forthcoming tree policy list.
Commissioners discussed location, species and operational concerns. A member cited the long, exposed stretch of Airport Road as a high priority for shade and pedestrian comfort. Another commissioner asked whether planting near the airport would interfere with aircraft operations; staff responded the proposed sites were outside any flight path. The commission’s recommendation — submitted to council with a stated preference for Airport Road — passed on a roll-call vote with all present voting yes.
The recommendation now goes to City Council for final approval; staff said the city tree policy and council direction will determine which species and how many trees are ultimately planted.
