Candace Meredith, deputy director of the Nebraska Association of County Officials, presented an overview of legislation from the 2026 short session at the Nance County Board meeting on June 23.
Meredith outlined bills that passed and those that did not and noted that certain enacted measures will take effect July 18, 2026. She distributed a packet containing information about NACO, county profiles, benefit services, preferred partners and materials from the National Association of Counties.
Board members received the information but did not take formal action on any specific bill during the meeting. Meredith's presentation was informational, intended to help county officials prepare for implementation of newly enacted statutes and for policy planning.
