The Mattoon CUSD 2 Board of Education approved a personnel report at its June 9 meeting that listed certified and classified appointments, resignations and extracurricular changes for the 2026–27 school year and included a recommendation to create a district student evaluation specialist position.
Assistant Superintendent for Human Resources Dr. Stossey presented the personnel slate, naming multiple appointments and resignations: certified appointment Gary Gilmore as a high‑school social‑science teacher; resignations including Cassandra Storer (Williams Elementary supervisor) and Hannah Turner (Riddle Elementary school secretary); classified appointment Valerie Golden (Williams Elementary classroom parent) and extracurricular personnel changes such as Craig Dennis’s resignation as Macon High assistant soccer coach. An addendum to the personnel report was also noted.
Board members asked whether the district student evaluation specialist was a new position. Dr. Stossey said it was, and a district staff member identified as Chad explained the role is intended as a stopgap to address persistent vacancies for school psychologists. "We've struggled with finding district psychologists," Chad said, adding that the evaluation specialist would assist with academic evaluations so contracted or district psychologists can focus on specialized cognitive testing.
Jeff Branson moved to approve the personnel report; Ashley Overton seconded. A roll call vote approved the personnel report. The board discussed monitoring the new evaluation specialist position and potentially returning to the board to recommend an additional specialist if the pilot proves successful.
Effective dates for some hires and resignations were provided in the report (for example, several appointments and resignations were listed as effective for the 2026–27 school year or specified calendar dates); the personnel report will be included in district records and the addendum will be attached to the minutes.
