Fruitport Community Schools elects Hazekamp president, approves officers and Open Meetings designees

At its annual organizational meeting Monday, the Fruitport Community Schools Board of Education elected Dave Hazekamp president and approved the board’s officers and administrative designees.
Kris Cole moved to approve the meeting agenda as presented; Kathy Six seconded the motion, which carried 7-0. During the election of officers, Kathy Six nominated Dave Hazekamp for president, with Kris Cole seconding. After a motion to close nominations and cast a ballot, the roll-call vote recorded six votes in favor and one abstention (Hazekamp), electing Hazekamp president.
Superintendent Jason Kennedy passed the gavel to President Dave Hazekamp, who presided over the remaining officer elections. Tim Burgess moved and Steve Kelly seconded the nomination of Kris Cole for vice president; the board voted unanimously, 7-0, to elect Cole. Kris Cole moved and JB Meeuwenberg seconded the nomination of Steve Kelly for secretary; that motion carried 7-0. Steve Kelly moved and Kris Cole seconded the nomination of JB Meeuwenberg for treasurer; the board elected Meeuwenberg by a 7-0 vote.
The board then voted to designate Abby Klug and Superintendent Jason Kennedy as the district employees authorized to post Board of Education meeting notices under the Michigan Open Meetings Act. Kris Cole moved the designation and Steve Kelly seconded; the motion carried 7-0.
There were no public remarks. Kathy Six moved to adjourn, seconded by JB Meeuwenberg; the motion carried 7-0 and the meeting adjourned at 7:09 p.m.
