City launches climate action planning process; new senior services coordinator starts work

Mayor Michael Brennan told council the city is beginning a climate action planning process intended to identify prioritized actions for the administration and community. The process will start with a communitywide online survey during October; survey results will be used to organize small‑group discussions and a public forum on Tuesday, Nov. 19 at the Wiley Building (2181 Miramar Blvd.) using the FutureHeights Crowdsourced Conversation format.
Brennan said the forum will gather resident input to shape small, medium and large action steps the city and community can take to increase sustainability and resilience. He described the Climate Action Plan as a legacy project he intends to finish within his current term.
Separately, Brennan announced Karen Malone Wright has begun as the city’s part‑time senior services coordinator (Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays), restoring a position vacant since 2020. The mayor thanked council for funding the position and said Wright will help reestablish senior programming.
Council and staff encouraged residents to learn more at the city sustainability webpage and to participate in the October survey. No formal vote was required for either announcement; the mayor urged wide resident participation ahead of the November forum.
