Bruce Silcott, Hicksville’s EMS chief, reported to the council that a grant he applied for in September was awarded for $30,000 to cover the cost of an EMT Basic class.
Silcott said he would like to recommend Joanie Kimple be certified as an EMT. Mayor Michael Barth accepted the recommendation and the council voted unanimously to accept the appointment recommendation as recorded in the minutes.
Silcott also announced a retirement party for Bob Meyer on Dec. 28 from 2 to 4 p.m. at the fire station and reminded residents about the Christmas-for-Kids handout scheduled Dec. 17 at 6 p.m. He urged residents to watch out for neighbors as cold weather arrives.
Why it matters: The training grant will pay for local EMT training capacity, which affects staffing and emergency response capability. The council’s acceptance of a recommended EMT adds personnel capacity for local EMS operations.
What’s next: The minutes record the council’s acceptance; the transcript does not list the effective employment or certification date for Joanie Kimple or additional hiring paperwork.
