Council approves applying for Iowa DNR Community Forest Grant to replace storm- and pest‑damaged trees

Staff noted the application initially posted in late June; meeting discussion referenced deadlines in late August (a staff exchange cited both Aug. 26 and Aug. 21 in the course of the discussion). Council moved and approved a motion to apply and to partner with Parks & Recreation on planning and maintenance commitments.
Why it matters: The grant could fund substantial tree replacement and new plantings across public spaces, supporting storm recovery and longer-term urban canopy goals. The council’s approval was for application only; any planting plan and maintenance commitments will be developed with Parks & Recreation before implementation.
