Hicksville Village Council voted 5–1 on Nov. 3 to opt out of a previously negotiated property purchase after the medical facility the village expected to lease part of the site withdrew its interest.
Rob Bailey moved to decline the receivership’s request to extend the village’s due-diligence period until Nov. 8; Eric Bassett seconded. Council members Bailey, Toni Egly, Eric Bassett, Kent Miller and Charlie Martin voted yes; Ron Beverly voted no. The motion clarified that a yes vote signified the village would no longer pursue the purchase.
Council reported that after the Oct. 23 special meeting the medical facility backing the lease had rescinded its interest. Administrator Cory Wann said the village issued a notice of termination to the receivership and withdrew the offer. The receivership then requested an extension to seek another potential tenant.
Council members acknowledged financial consequences of opting out. Meeting minutes record potential losses of $50,000 in earnest money and the loss of a $750,000 grant tied to the purchase; the council did not take further remedial action at the Nov. 3 meeting.
The decision followed an executive session that began at 6:25 p.m. and ended at 6:45 p.m. No further motions to re-open negotiations were offered at the meeting. The council adjourned at 6:55 p.m.
