District reviews security footage after people climb roofs at Pilgrim construction site

During the Capital Construction update, Mr. Oliver told the committee that security cameras captured several people who scaled fencing and climbed onto roofs at the Pilgrim construction site and at Hollipin. The intrusions occurred overnight; police responded but suspects had left by the time officers arrived.
Mr. Oliver said district and city staff reviewed footage with school leadership and the Warwick Police Department; Rhode Island State Police also deployed a drone team to search for heat signatures. Project staff and a district security analyst (Dan Jo) were able to zoom and clarify some images using neighboring school camera systems and identified possible youths or young adults seen on multiple nights.
Committee members raised safety and liability concerns because the site will soon have open trenches, poured slabs and other hazards as summer work proceeds. Mr. Oliver said the district will continue neighborhood outreach and coordinate with detectives if higher-quality footage yields identifiable suspects. The committee discussed whether to release footage publicly; staff said they would follow police guidance on release and likely provide footage to detectives for follow-up.
The committee instructed staff to consider enhancing overnight security and continue outreach to neighbors to discourage repeat trespass, given the safety risk during ongoing construction.
