Denton trustees approve donations, set grants budget, authorize staff raises and financial transfers

The Village of Denton Board of Trustees approved a series of financial and personnel actions at its Oct. 3, 2024 meeting, including a $2,500 donation to Nebraska Rural Water, a $12,000 grants budget for 2025, wage increases for several village employees, a $250,000 certificate of deposit purchase and routine claims and transfers.
Trustee John Juricek moved and Trustee Amanda Fangmeier seconded approval of a $2,500 donation to Nebraska Rural Water; the motion carried. Trustees agreed by consensus to send grant letters to local nonprofits and set the 2025 grants budget at $12,000.
On personnel, Trustee Juricek moved to approve a 2.5% wage increase effective Oct. 3, 2024, for employees Terry Orme, Jake Baker, Charlotte TeBrink and Meriel Dissmeyer; the motion was seconded and carried. The minutes also record a 2.5% health/insurance stipend for Blackledge and Clerk-Treasurer Charlotte TeBrink.
Financial actions recorded in the minutes include the clerk's purchase of a $250,000 certificate of deposit with LPL Financial for 18 months at 4.1% (reinvested from a redeemed CD), approval of claims list B for $90,760.93 and claims list A for $830.72, September payroll of $9,928.93, and a $30,000 transfer from Keno to the General Fund. The Treasurer's report listed account balances at the start of the meeting: General $48,737.18; Water $9,107.92; Streets $7,664.01; Sewer $6,587.65; Community Center $1,336.84. The Sept. Keno report showed gross proceeds of $533,987.64 with the village share of $37,635.90.
Separately, the clerk said she would send procurement letters to five engineering firms related to a water project tied to the Senator Fischer grant fund. Trustee Juricek also moved to send a preliminary plat and development information to Village Attorney Maureen Freeman-Cady for review; Trustee Fangmeier seconded and the motion carried.
The board approved claims and transfers as noted and adjourned at 7:55 p.m.
