Medina City Schools moves graduation to Thursday ahead of forecasted storms

Medina City Schools Superintendent Mr. Sable announced May 19 that graduation for the Class of 2026 will be held Thursday at 7:00 p.m. at Ken Duke Stadium, one day earlier than originally scheduled, because of a forecast for rain and thunderstorms Friday into Saturday.
Mr. Sable said district leaders considered starting Friday at 4:30 p.m. to avoid evening storms but that earlier time conflicted with elementary dismissal and bus operations. "So graduation time is officially changed to this Thursday at 7:00 p.m.," he said, citing the goal of providing "a positive experience for our students" on a day with better weather.
District officials said they monitored multiple forecast updates and concluded the rain probability increased for Friday evening and the original Saturday rain date, so moving the ceremony to Thursday offered the best chance of an outdoor event. The ceremony remains scheduled at Ken Duke Stadium; families and seniors were notified as soon as the decision was made.
The board did not take a separate vote on the date change during the regular business motions recorded that evening. The superintendent advised the community to check district communications for any further logistical details or instructions for guests.
