Denton trustees prioritize $1.2 million sewer expansion, playground upgrades in 2024–25 budget talks

Trustees discussed a list of proposed projects and rough cost estimates during the budget-planning portion of the meeting. The list included street striping estimated at $20,000; playground upgrades estimated at $75,000–$100,000; a sewer expansion estimated at $1.2 million; and equipment items including a spreader and a spreader attachment at about $5,000.
The board reviewed the village’s current fund balances in the treasurer’s report, which showed the General Fund at $19,675.86, Streets $12,268.60, Water $7,473.12 and a small Sewer balance of $416.43. Trustees noted the Keno account’s receipts when considering potential transfers and funding priorities for capital projects.
Trustee Amanda Fangmeier raised concerns about park maintenance capacity and suggested recruiting community volunteers to help maintain the community center, park and ballfield; the board also noted that maintenance staff (Blackledge) can schedule additional part-time hours as needed.
The board directed that the proposed items be included on the budget worksheet for further consideration; no formal appropriation or final vote on the 2024–25 budget occurred at the meeting. Next steps are drafting the budget worksheet and reviewing funding options, including the potential use of Keno funds.
