Park Board backs full scope of Lum Park restroom and shower remodel, asks for bid alternates

Staff presented finished plans and budget estimates for the Lum Park shower and restroom remodel. The capital budget included $110,000 and staff said that amount would cover a prioritized list of interior items — separating showers from restrooms, new sinks, fixture replacement, drinking fountain replacement, exhaust fans, surface lighting and hand dryers — while exterior work (roofing, soffit/fascia) would likely require additional funding of about $25,000.
"If the park board wants to move forward with the full scope of the project, we would recommend that you make a request to the city council for that additional approximate $80,000," staff said, noting the attachment with a High‑Tech Construction preliminary estimate. Board members urged doing exterior work at the same time as interior work to avoid higher future costs and recommended using bid alternates so the project can be split or awarded as a full package pending bid results.
A motion to accept the full project scope and to include bid alternates passed on a voice vote. Staff said they will proceed to refine budgets and request the board’s formal recommendation in upcoming capital budget discussions with council.
