Rothschild denies conditional‑use permit for outdoor sales of portable buildings, orders removal

The Village of Rothschild voted unanimously to deny a Conditional Use Permit renewal for outdoor display and sales of pre‑manufactured portable buildings operated by Retzy’s Sales at 1028 East Grand Avenue and ordered the removal of the sheds.
Zoning Coordinator Rebekka Borchardt reported that the site’s prior provisional approval (six months, issued December 2024) expired on June 9, 2025 and a renewal application was not submitted prior to expiration. After multiple unsuccessful contact attempts, the village issued a written notice on Nov. 4, 2025 declaring the CUP void. Borchardt noted the site historically contained about five to ten portable buildings and that site layout and intensity had not expanded, but she cited recurring communication and responsiveness problems and repeated follow up for maintenance tasks such as grass cutting and snow removal.
The board adopted the Planning & Zoning recommendation to deny the renewal and directed that the sheds be removed. The motion to deny the CUP (moved by Bill Schremp, seconded by Deb Ehster) carried unanimously 7–0.
