The Village of Rothschild Board approved refinements to its temporary‑structures zoning rules in Chapter 590, voting 4–3 on language intended to clarify distinctions between short‑term fabric event structures and more permanent seasonal shade fixtures.
Zoning Coordinator Rebekka Borchardt told the board the update adds two definitions — “temporary event” (lightweight, fabric, short‑term structures such as pop‑up tents and temporary carports) and “seasonal shade” (freestanding, open‑sided decorative shade structures intended for extended seasonal use and not for storage of vehicles or equipment). Borchardt said the language aims to prevent seasonal or long‑term storage use of fabric structures while allowing legitimate decorative shade structures, and recommended moving forward and initiating public notice for the new definitions.
The motion to approve the Temporary Structure ordinance update (moved by Bill Schremp, seconded by Paul Kennedy) passed 4–3. Trustees recorded as voting against the measure were Deb Ehster, Louella Luedtke and Jason Jablonski.
Board minutes indicate the change is intended to preserve neighborhood character and provide clearer enforcement authority; the board approved the ordinance language as presented and did not adopt further edits at the meeting.
