The Village of Rothschild Board on Nov. 24 adopted Resolution 2025-08, approving the village's 2026 budget and tax levy after a public hearing and presentations by Administrator Ryan VanDeWalle, Public Works Administrator Timothy Vergara and Finance Director Melanie Wiskow.
VanDeWalle told the board the village completed a revaluation in 2024 that produced a significant drop in assessed valuation; he said the village may propose moving to more frequent revaluations (every two to three years rather than four) in the 2027 budget planning cycle to better capture valuation trends and support borrowing capacity. Wiskow and VanDeWalle said they had discussed those trends with Baird, a municipal financial advisor.
Trustee Louella Luedtke raised questions about the layout and breakdown of general-levy dollars during the discussion. After debate, Trustee Jason Jablonski moved and Trustee Paul Kennedy seconded approval of Resolution 2025-08. The minutes record the motion as carried with six ayes and one nay (Luedtke).
The board's adoption of the budget follows the public hearing at which staff presented the budget book overview and a slideshow of key takeaways. The board did not amend the resolution at the meeting; staff will implement the adopted levy and budget for 2026.
