Chief of Police Jeremy Hunt outlined the need for a new MBMPD facility and presented the proposal’s basic scope. Mr. Fischer of Baird presented borrowing options and Administrator Ryan VanDeWalle reviewed how the $2.5 million would fit into the village’s overall debt‑service plan. The total project was presented as a $7 million building with the Village of Rothschild seeking $2.5 million and the Village of Weston expected to borrow the remaining $4.5 million.
The board voted to authorize village staff to pursue the borrowing. The motion (moved by Jason Jablonski, seconded by Paul Kennedy) passed on a roll call vote of 6–1: Bill Schremp — Aye; Deb Ehster — Nay; Sam Stroik — Aye; Louella Luedtke — Aye; Paul Kennedy — Aye; Jason Jablonski — Aye; Dan Helgeson — Aye.
Next steps listed by staff included proceeding with Baird to develop formal financing terms and returning to the board for final authorization if a bond or note issuance is recommended. No final financing documents were approved at the Jan. 12 meeting.
