Village authorizes early purchase of 2026 single-axle truck using 2025 DPW capital funds

The Village of Rothschild voted unanimously on Oct. 27 to use remaining 2025 Department of Public Works capital funds to purchase a 2026 single-axle Freightliner chassis, a move staff said would speed delivery into mid-2026.
Public Works Administrator Timothy Vergara told the board the chassis price for the 2026 Freightliner was $148,795 and requested authorization to carry forward $150,000 from 2025 to enter the purchase contract now. Vergara said the timetable for plow and box installation would place final outfitting in late June or early July 2026 and that approving the purchase now obligates the village to budget approximately $307,000 in the 2026 capital plan.
Trustee Sam Stroik moved and Trustee Jason Jablonski seconded the purchase authorization, and the board approved the motion on a roll-call vote with all seven members voting yes.
The board’s action allows staff to proceed with the purchase contract and schedules the budget impact for incorporation into the 2026 capital plan.
