Lancaster County approves claims, sets deputy county attorney salary and authorizes opioid settlement signature

At its March 10 meeting the Lancaster County Board of Commissioners approved routine claims, including an amendment to add the most recent payroll claim to claims processed through Feb. 27, 2026. The Board also approved two claims outside the 90-day period under Neb. Rev. Stat. §23-135 for Securitas Technology Corporation ($44,427.72) and Tyler Technologies Inc. ($2,379.70). All motions recorded in the minutes passed by 4-0 votes with Commissioner Matt Schulte absent.

County Attorney Pat Condon introduced Julia Pomerenke, who the Board appointed and set the salary for as Deputy County Attorney (Attorney I) at $85,425.60 (Step 2), effective March 19, 2026. Pomerenke provided her educational background and said she looked forward to joining Lancaster County and serving in the public sector.

The Board also approved a grant contract with the Nebraska Department of Transportation Highway Safety Office in the amount of $5,920 for the Sheriff to participate in the nationwide 'Put the Phone Away or Pay' mobilization from April 9–13, 2026. Separately, commissioners authorized Daniel J. Zieg to sign all necessary documents to settle opioid claims against the Six Remnant Defendants; Commissioner Rick Vest said he felt confident approving the authorization based on previous settlement experience.

Other routine actions included approval of a special designated license for Cork ’n Bottle for an event on May 30, 2026, at Roca Ridge, and several contract renewals and purchases listed on the consent agenda.
