Planning items set for advertisement including data-center and overlay amendments
Summary
The building and zoning director reported 80 permits issued in June and flagged several items for the board’s next meeting: a lot-line adjustment for Bird East Mill Road, an overlay/map amendment for a 110 Castle Road elderly housing sketch plan, and a data-center zoning text and map amendment to be authorized for advertisement.

The building and zoning director told the board that 80 permits were issued in June, exceeding any single month from last year, and reviewed planning items scheduled for the town’s upcoming regular meeting. Among the agenda items are a lot-line adjustment affecting 645 and 667 Bird East Mill Road (same owner; moving a lot line to enlarge one lot), a proposed overlay ordinance and map amendment associated with a sketch plan at 110 Castle Road for age-restricted dwelling units, and a data center zoning text and map amendment that staff and the Montgomery County Planning Commission have reviewed.
The director said the data-center map amendment covers most of the industrial district up Wald Road up to Schoolhouse Road (not the entire district) and that the overlay for 110 Castle Road would apply only to the two parcels in the sketch plan. There are no zoning hearing board applications currently for July; the next planning commission meeting will be a joint July/August session on Aug. 12.
Board members were shown the lot-line plan and advised that waiver requests related to the lot-line adjustment will be discussed at the regular meeting. No formal votes on these items were recorded during the update.
