Highway committee weighs a citizen request on cattle pass funding and reviews winter maintenance and bridge projects

The Marquette County Highway Committee met Feb. 17, 2026 and discussed winter maintenance expenditures, town and county labor percentages, and several local and state projects.
Commissioner Brian Trebiatowski reported RMA and county costs for January and said winter maintenance accounted for the majority of the month’s expenditures. Committee members reviewed town and village work reports and a year‑to‑date comparison showing county seasonal work and construction were up while winter maintenance was down from the five‑year average.
A citizen, Donald Bittelman, raised concerns regarding a cattle pass on County Trunk Highway E and was invited to fund a replacement; he declined the county’s request to pay for the pass. The committee also received status updates on state projects (I‑39 letting awarded to a contractor), the salt‑dome reimbursement process, Richards Pit maintenance, and local bridge and ARIP program timelines.
Next steps: staff will continue coordination with DOT, monitor grant and ARIP award announcements in April and proceed with scheduled county projects.
