Center Point council approves demolitions and multiple public-safety purchases; vehicle replacement tabled

Center Point, Ala. — The Center Point City Council on July 2 adopted a series of routine resolutions to clear pending demolition projects and to equip the city epartment of public safety, while tabling a request to replace an administration vehicle.
At the start of the business portion the council adopted its consent agenda and approved demolition work for multiple properties, accepting the lowest responsible bid for the package at a stated amount of $88,170. Council members recorded unanimous "yes" roll-call votes on the consent items.
The council also approved several public-safety purchases: Resolution 2026-58 authorized a $30,000 purchase of public-safety software; Resolution 2026-59 authorized purchase of body-worn cameras (quoted at about $15,945); Resolution 2026-60 approved radios for the department at approximately $76,218.66; and Resolution 2026-62 approved vehicle-mounted cameras for patrol vehicles at roughly $11,551.65. Each of those measures was adopted by roll-call votes reported as unanimous.
Councilors debated but ultimately tabled Resolution 2026-61, a request to buy a replacement administration vehicle. Several members said the purchase would be better considered in the next fiscal-year budget rather than funded out of savings immediately; the motion to table carried by roll call.
The meeting also included an item authorizing the mayor to enter discussions with Alabama Power about pole-mounted cameras (see separate coverage). The council voted to give the mayor authority to negotiate potential termination or modification of the contract; the resolution authorizes direct discussions but does not effect an immediate termination.
What happens next: For the purchases already approved, procurement and execution will be handled by the administration per each contract nd procurement process. The administration will return to council if additional approvals are needed (for example, payment terms or contract amendments). The vehicle request will return only after further budget consideration.
