Charlemont Conservation Commission approves minutes and officer appointments, hears enforcement update and tree-specs request

The Charlemont Conservation Commission on Aug. 14 approved its July 17, 2025 minutes and completed a routine reorganization of officers.
Bill Harker moved to approve the July 17 minutes; Andrea Santos seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Andrea Santos moved to keep Thorne Palmer as chair of the Conservation Commission; Clay Herbert seconded and the motion carried unanimously. Clay Herbert then moved that Andrea Santos be vice chair; Thorne Palmer seconded and the commission approved the appointment.
Under other business, Chair Palmer provided an update on the agenda item labeled 180 8A: he said Brian had moved five cars, prepared some for sale and removed scrap material; if the cars sell, Brian would meet the 12-car removal mandate in the enforcement order. Palmer said he would speak with the Select Board about seeking an extension to the enforcement order if additional time is needed to remove remaining vehicles.
Star Atkeson reported she had contacted Amber Tulloch to identify appropriate tree species and locations on school property for National Grid work. Bill Harker requested two trees for the fairgrounds and one for the Little Red Schoolhouse; Clay Herbert asked that two sycamores be planted at the end of South Street along the bank to help prevent erosion.
Andrea Santos moved to adjourn at 8:26 p.m.; Clay Herbert seconded and the meeting ended by unanimous vote. Reviewed documents included the meeting agenda and the July 17 minutes.
