Commission hears update on HB 376 historic rehabilitation tax credits and NAPC webinar

During other business at the March 9 meeting, Economic Development Director Taylor Smith reminded commission members that, as an active community with the National Alliance of Preservation Commissions (NAPC), registration is free for members for a March 25 webinar titled "Partners in Preservation: Preservation Organizations and Commissions." Smith also briefed the commission on the status of HB 376 concerning Historic Rehabilitation Tax Credits (HRTC).
According to the minutes, Smith reported that HB 376 has crossed over out of the Georgia House and is pending in the Senate Economic Development & Tourism Subcommittee; if it were to pass that subcommittee it would move to Senate Rules before a full Senate floor vote. Smith said that passage would recapitalize the HRTC program through 2029 and could pave the way for redevelopment of the R.E. Lee Math Building. The commission did not take formal action on the bill.
