The Thomaston Historic Preservation Commission approved an updated Certificate of Appropriateness (COA) application on March 9 and directed staff to present the revision to the Thomaston City Council at its March 17 meeting for final approval.
Economic Development Director Taylor Smith led the review, saying the COA update has been in development since fall 2025 and incorporates edits from prior meetings. Commission member Walter Brown moved to approve the updated application; Ted Kandler seconded and the motion carried unanimously.
Commission members noted only minor drafting issues during the review. Smith said he would correct a small grammatical error flagged by Kandler before forwarding the proposal to the council. The COA application update was described in the meeting minutes as the first agenda item after the removal of a separate COA for 211 S. Center Street, which was tabled to April because the applicant, Mrs. Myers, could not attend.
The action does not itself change ordinance language; it is an update to the commission’s COA application form and process. Smith told the commission he will bring the proposed update to the Thomaston City Council at its March 17 meeting for final consideration.
The commission took no secondary motions or amendments to the update during the meeting; individual roll-call votes were not recorded in the minutes, which report the motion as carried unanimously.
