The Downtown Development Authority of the City of Thomaston on March 19 approved a $5,000 façade grant reimbursement for Duke's Wine & Spirits, 614 N. Church Street, following a staff presentation of completion photos showing new lighting, signage, awnings and a hand railing.
Economic Development Director Taylor Smith told the board that the business’s qualified reimbursable expenses totaled $5,221.39, which exceeded the program maximum of $5,000. Chairwoman Catherine Baity moved to approve reimbursement at the program maximum of $5,000; Mayor Pro-Tem Troy Chaney seconded the motion, and it carried unanimously.
The approval covered the program cap; Smith also noted that Duke's plans to apply for an additional 2026 grant for further rear-building improvements and that a separate reimbursement request for H.J. Wings and Things is expected to be heard at the April meeting. No board member voiced opposition to the reimbursement amount during the discussion.
The reimbursement motion was recorded as passed by unanimous vote of members present. The board did not specify a timeline for payment in the minutes.
