Commissioner Jane Burdette to step down; commission plans May preservation events

Mrs. Jane Burdette announced at the April 6 meeting of the Thomaston Historic Preservation Commission that she will be stepping away from the board "due to time constraints and family obligations," and commission members recognized her five years of volunteer service with a round of applause.
Economic Development Director Taylor Smith summarized several community-oriented items for Historic Preservation Month in May, proposing partnerships with the Upson Historical Society and the Thomaston-Upson Archives. Members suggested organizing a Silvertown tree walk (date to be confirmed), a historic scavenger hunt modeled on the Thomaston-Upson Bicentennial event from 2025, and a feature of before-and-after photos of facade grant recipients; Mrs. Ivy Bridges, Mrs. Jamesan Gramme and Mrs. Alison Uphold volunteered to connect on planning.
Smith also invited commissioners to a University of Georgia and Clemson University student presentation of the East Thomaston Revitalization plan on Wednesday, May 6, from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Ritz Theater and said a marketing flyer would be available by the end of the week. The commission closed the April meeting with unanimous approval to reschedule the June meeting to June 8.
