Commission approves sign design for ‘Thomaston Exchange’ at 208 E. Gordon Street

The Thomaston Historic Preservation Commission on April 6 unanimously approved a Certificate of Appropriateness for a 5.5-by-3-foot sign for the Thomaston Exchange at 208 E. Gordon Street. Taylor Smith, Economic Development Director, said he had worked with Rick Jacques of Mockasin Metalworks on the proposed signage and presented the design options to the commission.
Smith described the proposed sign as 5.5' x 3' reading "Thomaston Exchange, Makers/Markets/Community, Est. 2026." After brief discussion, commissioners chose Typeface #1 (Change Bold) with diamond dividers between the words "Makers/Markets/Community." Mr. Ted Kandler moved to approve the Certificate of Appropriateness and Mrs. Ivy Bridges seconded; the motion carried unanimously.
The approval clears the sign for fabrication consistent with the approved typeface and layout. The COA for a separate property at 211 S. Center Street was tabled until May because the applicant was unavailable to attend the meeting.
