Madison County confirms appointments, sunsets insurance committee and replaces opioid committee member

Madison County commissioners approved a slate of appointments and adjusted committee membership during their June 25 meeting. The board reappointed Charles H. Bird to the Civil Service Board and Mel Patel to the Economic Development Commission and filled an education foundation seat (Michomin Ray Condre) for the remainder of a two-year term through October 2027.
Commissioner Wall moved to sunset the Employee Insurance Committee, which legal review found to be nonstatutory; the board approved the motion and said that department heads and commissioners could continue to address insurance matters through existing structures. The board also voted, by suspension of the rules, to replace Commissioner Watson with Lorie Lot on the opioid abatement committee to ensure representation for an upcoming meeting.
Multiple other appointments and reappointments were approved by voice vote for industrial parks, zoning appeals, E911, regional planning and the public records commission. All were carried by committee recommendation.
