Danville council honors EMS crew after cardiac-arrest save

The Danville Town Council publicly recognized members of its fire and EMS teams for their response to a May 17 cardiac arrest that resulted in the patient regaining a pulse and being discharged from the hospital.
The Chair invited the EMS director forward to present awards to the medic and officers involved. The EMS director said state officials from IDHS acknowledged the crew’s actions and described ‘‘early recognition for defibrillation’’ and ‘‘dual sequential defibrillation’’ as critical to the outcome.
‘‘We rely on these folks day in and day out to do their job,’’ the Chair said, expressing gratitude and urging the community to be proud of the department’s work. Council members joined the Chair in thanking the crew and posed for photographs after the presentation.
The awards were ceremonial recognition; no policy action or funding changes were made during the presentation. The council’s agenda moved from the recognition into a preliminary budget discussion later in the meeting.
