The Hinsdale Village Board voted June 30 to authorize a three-year contract with Flood Brothers of Oakbrook Terrace for residential solid-waste, recycling and landscape-waste collection. The contract is slated to begin Nov. 1, and staff said Flood Brothers' proposal is roughly 2% less over three years than the incumbent while offering local customer service.
Trustee Burns introduced the item and staff walked the board through the transition plan: resident communications and a registration portal will be mailed and launched in mid-July; residents can request cart configurations via a portal or QR code through early September; deployment of new carts and removal of the incumbent's carts is scheduled for the last two weeks of October; Flood Brothers will begin pickups in early November. Staff said each delivered cart will be scanned and assigned to an address so the village will have a real-time inventory.
Kevin Flood, identified in the meeting as Flood Brothers' CEO, stressed the company's transition support and local service model and said the operation will provide designated representatives to assist residents who cannot use the portal. When asked about payment options for residents who travel seasonally, staff confirmed autopay and credit-card-on-file options will be available. Trustees also asked about contract termination language; the parties agreed to clarify the 120-day notice and renewal language before final contract execution.
The board approved the resolution authorizing execution of the contract by roll call. Staff will return with any revised contract language and complete contract documents for signature and implementation tasks.
