County engineer outlines road maintenance and presents Rockhold dirt‑work bids; award deferred

County engineer Brandon briefed the Cerro Gordo County board on May 26, 2026, about ongoing road maintenance and presented bids for a Rockhold dirt‑work project that the board will review and award at a later meeting.

Brandon told the board crews are starting dust control applications about June 1, mowing is underway, pothole patching and a large concrete patch on Large Avenue were recently completed, and the county is transitioning from paper to electronic timecards. He also said the county has implemented GPS grader mapping so supervisors can see where graders have graded versus rolled.

On fencing at a county facility, Brandon said a south‑side fence will be installed toward the end of July, with a north‑end fence anticipated by the end of summer to reduce unauthorized daytime access to sheds and blind spots on the property.

For procurement, Brandon presented bids for the Rockhold dirt‑work project. The five bids reported were: Pop Excavating $213,331; Cole Excavating $257,985; McKinnis Excavating $261,545; Beemer Tiling $315,485; and Yanco $315,791. Brandon said staff will verify bid bonds and documentation before bringing a recommended award to the board next week; no award was made at this meeting.

Separately, the board approved an amendment to the fiber construction plan to add three railroad crossings for which the county has received bills; the chair was authorized to sign the amendment so the county can pay those bills.
