Supervisors approve payroll items, tax abatements and reappointments; authorize DOT plan signatures, then enter closed session

In a brief session May 26, the Cerro Gordo County Board approved FY2027 payroll measures and union wages, abated two mobile-home taxes, reappointed two veterans commissioners, authorized Iowa DOT plan and budget amendments, and entered a closed session on litigation strategy.
The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors on May 26 approved several routine payroll and administrative items, acted on tax abatements and appointments, authorized signatory actions on Iowa DOT documents, and met in closed session to discuss litigation strategy.
Early in the meeting the board, by unanimous vote, approved the meeting agenda and May 18 minutes, approved claims, and approved the FY2027 employee payroll effective July 1, 2026. The board separately approved FY2027 wages for the Public, Professional, and Maintenance Employees Local Union 2003 by unanimous vote.
Other actions included adoption of Resolution 2026-30 to set a pay change for Merrin Hanson (Conservation) to $17.00 per hour effective May 26, 2026; abatement of taxes on two mobile homes (VIN 31183 abated $300; VIN 98A17150 abated $3,993); and approval of dock permit 60P. The board also reappointed Jessica Reith and Cecil Foell to the Veteran Affairs Commission.
County Engineer Brandon Billings provided an update; the board approved the FY2026 Iowa DOT 5-year Construction Plan Amendment and the FY2026 Iowa DOT Budget Amendment and authorized the chair to sign the documents. All votes on these items were unanimous.
At 10:24 a.m. the board entered closed session under Iowa Code Section 21.5(1)(c) to discuss strategy with counsel in matters that are in litigation or where litigation is imminent. The roll-call vote to enter closed session was aye from Callanan, Ginapp and Watts. The board exited closed session at 10:36 a.m. and adjourned the meeting.
What’s next: payroll and personnel changes will be implemented by the Auditor; DOT documents were authorized for signature by the chair. No public actions were taken during closed session.
