Cerro Gordo supervisors approve elected-official pay increases, adopt FY2026 budget amendment and supplemental appropriations

The Cerro Gordo County Board of Supervisors voted unanimously May 26 to increase salaries for elected county officials and to adopt a fiscal-year 2025/26 budget amendment and related supplemental appropriations.
The board adopted Resolution 2026-31, approving a 2.75% increase for elected positions effective July 1, 2026. Under the resolution, the county attorney’s salary will rise to $160,439; the auditor, recorder and treasurer to $98,863 each; the sheriff to $159,937; and supervisors to $55,385. The motion was moved and seconded and carried on a 3–0 vote.
During a public hearing at 10:05 a.m., the Finance Director told the board a line-item amount had been published on the wrong line in the budget notice but said the total published was correct and that the department had clarified the issue with the State and the county’s external auditor. After hearing from taxpayers, the board adopted Resolution 2026-32 approving the FY2025/2026 budget amendment; the vote was unanimous.
The board also adopted Resolution 2026-33 to make supplemental appropriations for FY2026. The schedule adopted included a $1,040,000 supplemental appropriation to Secondary Roads; increases for the Health Department ($442,219), County Grants ($146,139) and County Libraries ($3,284); and a negative adjustment for Special Projects ($(1,092,854)). Other line items included Board of Supervisors $35,300; Auditor $15,000; Treasurer $8,500; Attorney $14,700; and a reduction of $238,000 for Sheriff. The board approved the supplemental appropriations on a 3–0 vote.
Why it matters: the salary increases adjust elected-official pay for the coming fiscal year and the supplemental appropriations reallocate one-time and recurring resources among county functions, notably increasing funding for transportation (Secondary Roads) and public health.
What’s next: the salary changes take effect July 1, 2026. The board directed the Auditor to make necessary payroll adjustments related to the personnel actions adopted May 26.
